The US air cargo sector has raised concerns that the ongoing federal government shutdown could disrupt supply chains and increase costs for businesses and consumers.

The Airforwarders Association, which represents freight forwarders, said air traffic control operations were already under pressure and that federal aviation staff shortages risked causing delays across the network.

“Freight forwarders depend on safe, predictable and fully resourced aviation infrastructure to keep goods moving,” the group said.

Industry leaders warn that even short disruptions can ripple through supply chains, affecting the delivery of goods ranging from consumer products to critical medical supplies.

The association said it was monitoring the situation closely and would continue updating its members as the shutdown persists.
