Liege Airport set new records last month after witnessing 2,586 cargo aircraft movements.
That figure represents a year-on-year increase of 12.6 per cent. In November 2023, Liege saw 2,297 movements.
The airport also saw cargo tonnage rise to 112,106 last month compared to 96,497 tonnes in the same period last year, representing a year-on-year increase of 16 per cent.
Torsten Wefers, vice president of sales and marketing at Liege, said: “These are the highest levels reached in 2024.
“Liege Airport’s cargo community has demonstrated exceptional performance throughout the year supporting the unique growth path of LGG. The outlook for 2025 is very encouraging.”
Since the beginning of the year, Liege’s cargo airline portfolio has grown by 20 per cent to 49 freighter carriers operating regularly via the airport.
Nearly 60 logistics companies are also now based around the airport, benefitting from Liege’s “unique cargo only approach”.
In October, and in comparison with all European airports, Liege Airport posted the second highest growth in cargo tonnages, just behind Madrid airport.
A surge in demand from the Asian continent is driving air freight growth, with imports playing a larger role than exports, reflecting ongoing challenges in the European economy, Liege said.
According to Xeneta’s latest market analysis: “Global demand for air freight showed no signs of slowing in November, with volumes recording a thirteenth consecutive month of double-digit growth and load factors reaching their highest level since April 2022.
“Demand grew by 10 per cent year-on-year in November, fuelled by the continuing boom in e-commerce.”
