FedEx has opened a new facility at Bilbao Airport, significantly expanding its handling capacity in northern Spain.
The new complex offers 2,700 sq m of warehouse space — almost 2,000 sq m more than the company’s previous site — alongside 400 sq m of modern office space spread over two floors.
FedEx said the investment has doubled its sorting capacity in Bilbao, enabling the station to process up to 1,500 packages per hour.
The facility also features 27 loading docks, up from seven at the former site, streamlining operations and allowing for larger volumes.
Ian Silverton, managing director of ground operations for FedEx Spain and Portugal, said: “This new complex represents a significant investment in our operational capabilities and allows us to enhance our service offerings for customers, supporting their international aspirations and operational needs.”
The Bilbao station complements FedEx’s existing facilities in Vitoria and San Sebastian, as well as its air gateway in Vitoria, which provides next-day connections to Europe and North America. Together, the three stations can handle up to 6,000 packages per hour.
FedEx has a wide footprint across Spain, including air gateways in Madrid, Barcelona, Seville, Valencia and Vitoria, two main road hubs in Madrid and Barcelona, and 26 operational stations nationwide.
