DHL Air UK has bolstered its presence in the United Kingdom by establishing a Maintenance, Repair, and Operations (MRO)-focused warehouse facility at the Air Cargo Centre in East Midlands Airport.
The cargo airline, already based at the airport, has secured a lease for a unit at the Centre for an estimated duration of five years, as announced by FHP Property Consultants in a recent press release.
Peter Molloy, the regional commercial manager for DHL, emphasized the significance of East Midlands Airport, which houses the largest dedicated cargo operation in the UK. Molloy stated, “The new unit at Air Cargo Centre will be predominantly used for repairs and maintenance, keeping this separate to our parcel hub.”
Situated off Beverley Road within the East Midlands Airport campus, the Air Cargo Centre encompasses 23 industrial/warehouse units, boasting a combined floor area of approximately 200,000 sq ft.
DHL Air UK primarily serves the DHL Group’s parcel and express network in Europe. This strategic move to establish an MRO-focused facility further enhances the airline’s operational capabilities.
In a related development last month, DHL Express UK announced a substantial £16 million investment in electric ground service vehicles and infrastructure at East Midlands Airport, demonstrating the company’s commitment to sustainability and modernization in its operations.
