Cathay Cargo has confirmed that Dominic Perret, currently its regional general manager for Southeast Asia, will succeed Tom Owen as director of cargo, as the Hong Kong-based carrier prepares for a new phase of growth.
The appointment, first announced in July, was reconfirmed by the airline in a LinkedIn post on 22 October, though an exact start date has yet to be disclosed.
“With over 10 years of senior leadership experience at Cathay, Dominic’s strong track record of leading cross-cultural teams positions him well to drive positive change and deliver commercial, operational, and customer service excellence, as Cathay Cargo continues its journey to becoming the world’s best cargo carrier,” the company said.
Cathay also paid tribute to outgoing cargo chief Tom Owen, thanking him for his “dedicated service over the past five years” and noting that his leadership had been “instrumental in bringing the Cathay Cargo team to greater heights”.
Perret, who joined Cathay in 2000, has held a variety of senior roles across the airline, including general manager of customer care, aircrew, flight operations, and inflight services.
He also spent a short period with Swire Pacific Offshore, a former subsidiary of Cathay’s parent company Swire Pacific.
Owen, who has led Cathay Cargo since 2019, will move within the Swire Group to become group director of corporate development at HAECO (Hong Kong Aircraft Engineering Company Limited), one of the region’s leading aircraft maintenance and engineering providers.
The leadership change comes as Cathay Cargo continues to expand its global network and digital capabilities following a strong post-pandemic recovery in Hong Kong’s air freight sector.
