Brussels Airport handled nearly 58,000 tonnes of cargo in August, a 3% increase on the same month last year.
The volume of flown cargo rose by 13% to 53,606 tonnes, driven largely by strong growth in integrator services, which surged by 38%.
Full-freighter volumes dipped by 5%, while bellyhold cargo remained stable. In contrast, trucked cargo saw a sharp 51.5% decline.
Asia, Africa and North America were the airport’s main import regions in August, with the same three markets leading on exports.
The figures underline the airport’s continued role as a key European cargo hub, even as passenger numbers also grew this summer.
Arnaud Feist, CEO of Brussels Airport Company says: “It was a busy summer at Brussels Airport with 5 million passengers.
“Thanks to good preparation and collaboration with our partners, the summer went very well.
“With additional check-in options, by doubling the self-bag drop capacity and using mobile check-in desks, and the deployment of extra staff by all partners, holidaymakers were able to enjoy a smooth service at the airport.
“In addition, the work on runway 25L/7R was completed on time and without any impact on our passengers,”
The number of flight movements in August rose by 2% compared to the same period last year.
The number of passenger flights increased by 2%, while there were 1% less cargo flights.
