UK-based Air One International Holdings and Dutch firm Peso Aviation Management have received court approval for their joint acquisition of Air Belgium’s struggling cargo operations.
The Business Court of Walloon Brabant approved the deal today, marking a significant milestone in the effort to stabilise and revitalise Air Belgium’s cargo business.
The next phase will involve obtaining the necessary operating and aviation licences from Belgian aviation authorities to finalise the acquisition.
As part of their strategy, the new entity, Air One Belgium (AOB), plans to expand the airline’s fleet.
Two additional Boeing 747-400F aircraft will be integrated, joining the current lineup of two B747-8F and two A330-200F freighters.
This enhanced fleet, combined with existing charter contracts, will strengthen operations and position the company to meet growing customer demand.
“This acquisition lays a strong foundation for Air Belgium’s future success in both Belgian and international cargo markets, preserves employment, and creates new development opportunities,” the partners stated.
To facilitate the purchase, Air One Belgium will be formed as a new entity, with Peso Aviation Management’s Peter Scholten holding a 51% stake and Air One owning the remaining 49%. Scholten, a seasoned professional with over 30 years of experience in the air cargo sector, will play a pivotal role in leading the business.
The newly created company will acquire Air Belgium Cargo’s business assets, existing contracts, and essential personnel to ensure a smooth transition.
Peter Scholten expressed his optimism about the court’s decision, stating, “This positive ruling is not just an important win for Peso Aviation Management and Air One International Holdings but also a significant milestone for Air Belgium’s cargo division and its dedicated employees.
“Together, we now have an opportunity to preserve jobs, strengthen Belgium’s aviation landscape, and build a future-ready cargo operation that benefits customers, our employees, and communities alike. This marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter for everyone involved.”
Both Air One and Peso Aviation Management have committed to leveraging their combined expertise to drive growth, safeguard employment.
